Pharmacological action

Hepa-Merc is hepatoprotective.

Pharmacodynamics

Participates in the ornithine cycle of Krebs urea formation (biosynthesis of urea from ammonia). Promotes the production of insulin and STH. Improves the detoxification function of the liver, lowers the elevated level of ammonia in the plasma. Improves protein metabolism in diseases requiring parenteral nutrition.

Pharmacokinetics

It dissociates into ornithine and aspartate, which are absorbed in the small intestine by active transport through the intestinal epithelium. It is excreted in the urine through a cycle of urea formation.

Indications

Acute and chronic liver diseases accompanied by hyperammonemia. Hepatic encephalopathy (latent and pronounced). Steatoses and steatohepatitis (of various origins).

Contraindications

Severe renal impairment (plasma creatinine level 3 mg/100 ml).

Side effects

Rarely — skin reactions, in some cases — nausea, vomiting.

How to take it, the course of administration and dosage

Inside, after eating, 1 sachet of granulate, previously dissolved in 200 ml of liquid, 2-3 times a day.
